Yes. Tree roots are naturally drawn to the moisture and nutrients inside a sewer line, and they can enter through the smallest crack or offset joint. Once inside, roots grow rapidly, catching debris and eventually blocking the pipe entirely, or in more serious cases, cracking or collapsing the pipe from the pressure of continued growth.

Where the existing pipe is structurally sound, trenchless relining can often repair the sewer from the inside using existing access points, avoiding disruption to driveways, gardens and paths. Excavation is generally only needed where a section of pipe has collapsed or sunk to the point that relining isn't a suitable option.

Turn off any taps or appliances that feed into the affected drain, avoid flushing toilets or using sinks connected to the blockage, and contact a licensed sewer plumber as soon as possible.
